The Chang Feng 05, or CF-05 is a Chinese submachine gun. This weapon is also referred as CS/LS06, or Type 06 . Development reportedly commenced in 1993-1994. A prototype named QC-9 appeared in 2004. The design was finalized in 2004-2005. The CF-05 competed against other designs to meet a Chinese army requirement for a new compact submachine gun. However it was not selected by the Chinese military due to the overly complicated design. Instead the Chinese armed forces went for the QCW-05. Despite that production of the CF-05 reportedly commenced in 2005. This submachine gun is used by China's law enforcement forces, notably elite counter-terrorist units. It has been exported to Myanmar (100 000 units) and Uganda.
The CF-05 is a blowback-operated weapon. he most unusual feature about this submachine gun is that it uses a high-capacity helical magazines, located on top of the weapon. The magazine holds 50 rounds. Helical magazines were originally patented by Calico company and were used on their submachine guns, notably Calico M950. The CF-05 has some features of the Calico submachine guns, however it is a new design rather than a clone.
