While the early half of the Westenlands Wars and the prior years had seen many different approaches to vehicle design, it's argued that the Mathis series would cement the principles of an effective tank for decades after its inception. While the tank's fearsome reputation would become known with the Mk II, developed from lessons learned during the Syrvanian Expedition, Mk Is operated by the Hettic Home Army would provide a formidable obstacle to Syrvanian forces in Leersog. As the war dragged on into late autumn, and Syrvania lost momentum, the Mathis could no longer be avoided or outrun as it had before.

Although the CzS.2 was originally developed alongside the CzS.1, which was intended to be more of a heavy infantry tank, its delayed development thanks to the invasion by Chergaria allowed for certain improvements to be made in its design. Though it had only just entered production by the outbreak of the Second Leersog War, it would gradually enter service alongside Syrvania's mainstay fleet of light tanks, acting as Syrvania's much-needed answer to the Mathis infantry tank.
